Tucked away in the leafy, refined suburbs of inner-city Perth is Manor Homes’ iconic Subiaco residence. Elegant and understated, this home reflects the style and sophistication of a bygone era, without holding back on the modern conveniences of contemporary living. Inspiration was found in the owner’s extensive travels – their love of historical European architecture and stately countryside English manors has been weaved into the design of the character home, tying it in seamlessly with the surrounding Subiaco area.
Materials, finishes and furnishings where locally sourced wherever possible for the residence. Polished concrete flooring throughout three-levels creates an unobtrusive, pared-back canvas, allowing antique furniture pieces and Missoni fabrics to make a statement. Exposed brick was used extensively, and with great effect, in many areas of the house. Local timbers, limestone and recycled glass also feature thorughout, creating a warm and welcoming environment.
The kitchen was designed using a clever blend of simple contemporary lines and modern appliances – all intersected with period elements. The decorative pressed-tin ceiling adds texture, originality and intimacy to the room. The custom-built island bench was hand-poured, with segments of broken glass salvaged from vintage bottles hand-placed into the surface, creating colour, reflection and a unique talking-point. The kitchen displays numerous quality fittings, and flows effortlessly into a spacious family dining area.
The living areas of the home comprise both formal and family spaces. Recycled jetty planks have been given a second lease on life, used as beams for the living room’s pitched ceiling, and Lead lights used in the cavity sliders were sourced from a salvage yard.
Zoned away from the living areas, the house also boasts three family-sized bedrooms that all offer their own ensuite bathrooms and generous wardrobes. The master bedroom suite enjoys privacy on the top floor, designed as a tranquil sanctuary for the owners. The house also features a separate guest room for visitors.
The outdoor area includes a beautifully-designed private alfresco dining space that features a generous brick oven and recycled timber on the external façade.
